DETAILED ITINERARY:
Day 1 Arrival in Vientiane
Upon your arrival at any time on Day 1, you may take a taxi to our hotel, or you can arrange directly with us for a pick-up.
You get your first impression of this small, yet beautiful, capitol of Laos. We provide you with orientation information, and you have an opportunity to ask your questions.
Day 2 Discover Vientiane - Tuk-Tuk Sightseeing and Elephant Watchtower
On our first morning together, we get insight into the most important sights of this town, including temples, a museum and a bustling marketplace. In the afternoon, we take our bus out of town to thePhou Khao Khouay National Protected Area, where we have to unique chance to watch wild elephants from atop a tower. We overnight on camping mattress on the tower from where we can see the wild Elephants. L-D - (depending on season village overnight stay)
Day 3 Hiking, Wildlife-Watching and Village Visits
The National Protected Area is the perfect start for some wildlife watching. The guided trips bring us deep into the protected area and into small villages. Along the way, we spy the wild and endangered elephants. After our activity day and some wonderful trekking we will arrive in the village of Ban Na. Here we will get a warm welcome for our overnight stay with a local family. B-L-D
Day 4 Vang Vieng – Easy Country Walk
On the road again we drive up north to the well-known little town of Vang Vieng. Here we will see the stunning area, which is favorite for its granite formations and fantastic landscape. We take a walk over the river right into this amazing scenery. Cave visits are also included. B
Day 5 Vang Vieng - Area Discovery
On Day 5, you have a choice of activities, including kayaking, hiking, caving or just hanging out. Your guides will expertly make the necessary arrangements and can offer them to you. As there are so many possibilities we did not include any of them. You got the freedom to choose your favourite activity. (most cost 10-20$) B
Day 6 Vang Vieng to Phou Khoun, Kiu Kacham Caving and the Highlands
The winding road takes us up north into the Highlands, an enchanting region. In the afternoon, we start some serious cave exploring - get your headlights ready! Here, we spend the night in a small guest house. B
Day 7 The Jungle…Rafting and Camping
With our rafts, we head out for a multi-day adventure, which includes rafting, rivers, forests, villages and great trekking. But most importantly, some great countryside awaits us. The Nam Ming River is our first relaxed river ride. We overnight in tents along the river. B-L-D
Day 8 Countryside Discovery – Trekking and Meeting the Locals
Today, we leave our rafts behind in order to hike through a beautiful, unspoiled area where there are no cars or roads. We encounter some farmers and the Hmong and Khmu people. Our total walking time is about 6-7 hours. We spend the night in a family home-stay. B-L-D
Day 9 Trekking and Meeting the Locals – Great Mountains
It’s another day full of adventures and activity. We make our way through some jungle and into regions that were once home to tigers. During our village stops, we can see and experience local culture and get some insight into a different way of life, away from civilization. We spend the night in a family home-stay. B-L-D
Day 10 Back into Civilization – A Unique Resort
After a short walk or river trip (depending on our route), we arrive on the banks of the Nam Khan. Here we find a beautiful resort that brings us back slowly into civilization. Majestic elephants take a bath right in front of us, displayed against the backdrop of the region we have just discovered... B-L
Day 11 Relax on the Back of an Elephant
This day offers a bit of relaxation. We have a scenic ride on an elephant from the nearby Elephant Project and can later drive/paddle back into town. Welcome to the world heritage town of Luang Prabang! B-L
Day 12 Luang Prabang – Temples and Monasteries
This cultural centre of Laos has many things to offer. Sights like its numerous monasteries, the old colonial flair, the majestic Mekong, and, last but not least, the former royal palace offer a wide range of great activities. During our city tour, you get an impression of what Luang Prabang has to offer.
Day 13 Luang Prabang - Waterfall Discovery
After a free morning, we meet for an afternoon visit to the magic cascades of Kuang Si Waterfalls. We take to the dust road in small Tuk-Tuks for about 35 km to see one of the most interesting natural sights in this region. Natural pools, a lush green surrounding and some small food stalls make it a perfect afternoon visit. For our last evening together on this14 day Adventure , we share a small grill party to say farewell. D
Day 14 End of Tour - Airport Transfer or Continuing Travel
You can arrange a ride to the airport from your hotel at any time of the day. We can also provide continuing travel arrangements, or you might choose to purchase one of our great Northern Discovery Circuits – 3- to 7 days.
